Welcome to My Garden

We may walk on different paths, but we follow the same footprints.

This year I'm focusing on improving my running and overall health by taking the 2017 Mile Challenge and seeing where the journey takes me. I'm also revisiting the Monthly Challenge started by Nephew Jason in 2009.

I'll try to post something every day. It may be a short inspirational quote or a longer narrative. Please join me......

2017 miles Day 100

One hundred days have passed since this journey of 2017 miles began.  A quick look back:  In January the focus was making smart beverage choices.  February focus was increasing exercise of the trinity and cut out soda.  March was the month to focus on developing smart food choices, reading labels, and avoiding processed or "fake" food.  This month, April, the task is to start a compost pile and minimize trash.

So, how have You been doing?  Make an honest assessment.  Look at how far You have come, and continue to make smart choices.  Remember practice makes permanent.

April is notoriously a month of unpredictable weather.  However, the sun is coming up earlier each day, the days are getting longer, there are fewer and fewer nasty cold days, and everything is starting to break dormancy and green up.  That's just what has been happening to You ... breaking dormancy.  You made the commitment to make specific changes each month.  And, each month those changes have become a part of your life.

This month's challenge of minimizing trash and starting or rejuvenating a compost pile is going well.  Garden beds have been cleaned out and debris turned into the compost pile along with some composted manure from a neighbor's cow lot.  Through the summer, I will continue to add kitchen waste (NO meat products, but egg shells are ok), and other plant waste from the garden.  There are numerous websites that offer tips and tricks for making a working compost pile, so I'm not going to go into detail on the how-tos here.  As far as trash goes, that is still a work in progress.  I am trying to devise a system that isn't too time consuming.

This is another Get-it-done-work-hard-don't-stop week.  Set three goals that You want to accomplish, write them down and stick to it.  Give You a high-five.

Now, GET OUT THERE - You have work to do....!!!!
